Introducing Our New Director
Deb Hinkel begins her new role this week as the Director of Spiritual Formation and Family Ministry. Regarding her new position, Deb says, “I see my role as a catalyst and a coach as I encourage people of all ages to take next steps in their spiritual journey.”
Deb is from the central Pennsylvania area. She graduated from Millersville University with a bachelor’s degree in educational media. While at MU she participated in Intervarsity Christian Fellowship where she met her husband, Mark. She and Mark then moved to Chicago where Mark received a Master of Divinity degree and Deb took classes at Trinity International University. After their children were in school, Deb continued her education at Lancaster Bible College where she graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Ministry.
For the past 14 years Deb has been an assistant professor in the Church and Ministry Leadership department at Lancaster Bible College, overseeing the Women in Christian Ministry, Children and Family Ministry, and Spiritual Formation and Discipleship programs. Prior to her work at LBC, she spent 15 years in professional church ministry developing programs in Christian education, children’s ministry, and women’s ministry.
Deb states that she is excited to “work alongside staff and lay leaders to create processes that will facilitate spiritual growth, assist parents in their role as the primary disciplers of their children, and oversee the children’s ministry team as they develop a more intentional environment of relational discipleship for the children of Hershey Free Church.”
An avid sports fan, Deb and her family can often be seen enjoying a football game or some other sporting event together. She and her husband live in a 140-year-old home in Maytown, Lancaster County, which they have enjoyed renovating over the past 30 years. She also enjoys basket-weaving, reading, swimming, and walking. Deb and Mark have three adult sons and two grandchildren.
Deb will be available for introductions and brief questions between Sunday morning services on July 12 (elementary wing), July 19 (preschool wing), and July 26 (nursery hallway). Be sure to greet her and welcome her to our staff!
