Unselfish, Serving Seniors
Testimony of a Senior Couple Touched by their Brothers and Sisters in Christ
Romans 12:9-10,13 says, “Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them…Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other…When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them” (NLT).
Recently a group of senior adults from Hershey Free hit a home run with one of our senior couples who ran into financial and health concerns. Their home was on the market to be sold…but needed some interior and exterior improvements.
While the owners of the home were on a trip to Arizona to investigate the possibility of relocating to the Southwest and be closer to family, a group of people from Hershey Free got together to develop and implement a plan to refurbish their residence.
While in Arizona, the couple was encouraged by their Hershey Free friends to extend their visit a few more weeks so the group could quietly accomplish the improvements on their condo.
The group included professional painters, carpet installers, construction planners, and lots of volunteer labor to do cleaning, packing, decorating, etc. When the owners returned, they were surprised and overwhelmed by the newly refurbished home. The cost of these improvements was borne by the task force of these wonderful seniors serving God in this way and helping this couple in need.
There was a need, a willing spirit, and an unselfish, servant attitude. Thank you, Lord, for people like this who roll up their sleeves and give of their time, skills, and money to reach out and become more like Christ.
