Culture Shock: Hurry, Busyness, and the Pace of Life

During a recent message in our Culture Shock series, we talked about hurry, busyness, and the pace of life. After the sermon, we received this encouraging note:

This past Sunday’s sermon touched my heart. Prior to the service I was thinking to myself how much excessive time I spend on my cell phone. After listening to the preaching I felt a strong conviction. I had to do something with my phone!

I don’t want to miss an opportunity to talk to someone in public about God because I’m too busy on my phone. I don’t want to lose the chance to speak to my children or husband because I am on my phone. I don’t want to miss God speaking into my life because I am on my phone!

So, I prayed about it and came up with this idea. I gathered my family together this evening and reviewed the notes from the sermon and read the story on Martha and Mary. I bought a basket and wrote on it “no phone snubbing” along with the Bible verses from your teaching. I challenged my family and I to place our cell phones in the basket and only answer if necessary.

Everyone is on board and responded well to the challenge. I am excited to see what God has in store for us and that he can give us the strength to stay faithful with this challenge.

What a great response to last week’s message. I, for one, would love to hear updates from this brave mom!
