Business Calendar Alignment

In an effort to make the operations of the church more efficient and streamlined, we will be combining our two semi-annual congregational meetings into one annual meeting each May. With one annual meeting we can more easily align our budget cycle and our leadership terms to match our ministry calendar.

Previously, our two congregational meetings were held in September to affirm our leaders and in March to approve our ministry budget. The leadership terms for elders and deacons would run from October through September, and our ministry budget would run from April to March. In an effort to more closely align our leaders’ terms and our budget with the ministry year (September through August), we will combine all of these schedules into one calendar that will start in July and continue through June.

We started the process of aligning the calendars at our September congregational meeting. When we affirmed our leaders at that meeting, it was for a shortened term. The first year of their two-year term will only be October through June (nine months); and the second year of their term will be a full year (July 2016 through June 2017).

In order to align our budget with this change, we are proposing something similar. In March of 2015 at our congregational meeting we approved our ministry budget for the fiscal year April 2015 through March 2016. We are proposing that we would continue to operate under that same budget for an additional three months (April 2016 through June 2016). This would allow us to start a new budget on July 1, 2016, and thus align our ministry budget with our leadership terms and our ministry calendar.

Before we vote on the three-month extension, we will have two question-and-answer opportunities: Sundays, February 21 and 28. Church members will then vote on the extension by paper ballot on Sunday morning, March 6.

On May 22, 2016, we will hold our first combined congregational meeting to both affirm leaders and approve our annual budget.
