Camp Orchard Hill
Camp Orchard Hill Recap from Pastor Craig
There are a few intangible things in life that I wish I could bottle. This summer’s camp/ missions experience was one of those things. This was a week that God brought together. There is no denying that. It was simply amazing.
Throughout the week we were able to see the church as the people, and more than just the people of our own local body. Students and leaders from three churches plus camp counselors mixed together to form “family groups” to serve together for the week. We served at various ministries and invested in the kingdom of God through two Vacation Bible Schools with kids in Wilkes-Barre.
In addition to serving, we had all the activities camp has to offer: archery, tomahawk throwing, swimming, gym activities, gaga, extreme swing, zip line, the blob, giant inflatables, bubble balls, dodge ball, carpet ball, s’mores, lakefront activities, and the snack shop. It was so much fun! We also had chapel sessions each day. Students started to be more expressive during the music portion of worship, and God softened hearts to the words of our speaker, Wayne Morgan. The evening church discussion groups were so good. We were able to process the message and the experiences of the day. There was truly a releasing to God and discovering of how much God is always at work.
Students have been challenged to share with their parents and supporters the impact God had on their lives. Therefore, please keep asking about their experience! Students were also challenged to continue to surrender to God and get into more intentional habits of spending time with God. It would be wise to ask your son/daughter about any decisions they made and help them put a plan together to continue taking action in that area. We all need help and support; ask how you can encourage your child’s spiritual growth after this intensive and impactful week of camp.
I would like to thank Hershey Free Church for supporting us in prayer, coming to our brunch fundraiser, and showing interest through our updates on Facebook. And a special thank you goes to the leaders who gave their week to be with HFC students: Thom Iriana, Sam Sellers, Joel George, Jodi Kirman, Grace Murray, Kamda Swigart, and Joanna Maart. May we all use this opportunity to be encouraged to live with Jesus, love like Jesus, and lead others to do the same. Praise God for how he works!
