Downey Box Tops

Downey Box Tops

We just want to extend a quick thank-you to everyone who participated in the Box Top Event at Downey Elementary School earlier this month. Over 100 children/families gathered, as well as the Hershey Free volunteers pictured above. The group spent time together, built relationships, and counted 1,450 Box Tops, which will be turned into additional supplies for the school.

Our partnership with Downey is one that started with a project during last year’s Church: Beyond the Walls, and we have continued interacting with the staff and students over the past year. As we are seeking to be involved regionally as a church, Harrisburg is one place we can make a difference. Working with Downey gives us the opportunity to help in a location that is culturally different from Hershey but is still nearby. We get to build relationships with the teachers as well as the students and families during community events; and giving support to the staff helps them feel encouraged in an area where there isn’t much of that.

Thank you for all you’ve done over the past year to make a difference in the lives of families and teachers at this school—participating in the Trunk-or-Treat event, sending encouraging cards and gifts to staff, reading to kids, being lunchroom monitors, collecting Box Tops. Your love and support is felt, is greatly appreciated, and is making a difference.
