Local Outreach Ministries

The purpose of Outreach Ministries is to mobilize members of our church to share the gospel and the love of Christ with those who do not know Jesus Christ as their savior.

GraceWorks
On Apri 19, 2008, teams of volunteers will head out into the community to work on service projects. As we serve in this way we hope to meet many of our neighbors in the communities around us and share with them, in word and in deed, the Good News of God’s love for us in Christ. As a wrap up, we’ll meet back at the church at 5 p.m. for a time of celebration, prayer, sharing and a simple meal. Click here to download a form to suggest a project.

Candytown Carnival
This event offers games, food, entertainment and lots of fun in a safe, family-oriented atmosphere. Hundreds of area residents bring their children to the Carnival, where everyone receives a gospel tract and information about church ministries. The gospel also is communicated through music, puppets and other activities. Participation by individuals, AEFs, community groups and others is welcome. Watch for announcements in Hershey Free Happenings or the Sunday bulletin.

Evangelism Training
People wishing to learn how to explain the good news of Jesus’ forgiveness and leadership to others are invited to attend evangelism training classes, which are offered periodically during Sunday morning Adult Education Fellowships (AEFs) or on Wednesday evenings. A key objective of the course is to provide students with the tools they need to clearly express the gospel.  For more information, write to Pastor Daniel Witwer or phone 533-4848.

Evangelistic Discussion Groups
People are encouraged to initiate discussion groups in there neighborhoods or workplaces. For ideas or resources, write to Pastor Daniel Witwer or phone 533-4848.

Fit 'N Shape
This hour-long exercise class, devotional time and prayer for women is held at 9:30 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the school year. Phone Barbara Lambert, 566-6502, for more information.

Hilltop Christian Nursery School
The nursery school reaches out to children and their parents through a small classroom setting in a Christian environment. Using the early childhood wing of our Christian education facilities, the school serves more than 100 students. Contact the school director, Becky Chocklette, at 533-8956, or see the HCNS Web site for more information.

Home Away From Home
This is a ministry to internationals, primarily by teaching English as a Second Language. In addition, there are special events for our overseas friends to experience American culture and develop relationships with local families, including meetings with a host family, internationals dinners, picnics and tours to historical sites. Write to Trig Rohrbach , or phone 583-0189, for more information.

King's Corps
This ministry strives to do all that is possible to enable developmentally disabled adults and older teens to hear and receive the Good News of Jesus Christ, help them grow in their walk with the Lord and provide them with opportunities for ministry and social interaction. In addition to Sunday school at 10:45 a.m. in room 10, the group enjoys monthly social events and participates regularly in the life of the church. For more information, phone Cheryl Mishler at 469-7354.

Musicals
Our Easter musical ministers to approximately 5,000 people. Watch the Sunday bulletin for the dates of the musicals and information on how to become involved in the choir.

Preschool Story Time
Children ages 4 and under and their parents are invited to a story time the second Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary lobby. For more information, e-mail Anne Marie McAlester, or phone 533-4848.

Prison Ministry
The goal of this ministry at the Dauphin County Prison is to help inmates develop a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.  We can do this through worship services, Bible studies, correspondence, visitation and mentoring. Contact Ken Freed, 944-1978, for more information.

Project Giving Tree
This activity ministers to the children of prison inmates and men and women in transition from prison by providing Christmas gifts from our congregation on behalf of their parents. Look for the Christmas tree in the church lobby in November, pick an “ornament” off the tree and buy a gift for the child whose name and age are on the ornament. People are also needed to help with various aspects of this ministry; watch the Sunday bulletin for volunteer opportunities.

Summer Backyard Clubs
Hosting a 5-day Backyard Club for kids age 4 through 6th grade  is a great way to reach out to families in your neighborhood. It can be as easy as setting  a date and providing snacks, or hosts can add activities that are provided in a materials pack. A missionary from Child Evangelism Fellowship presents the Bible story each day. Clubs take place in July and August; host sign-ups begin in the spring. Write to Christopher Miller or phone 533-4848 for more information.
