Living, Loving, and Leading in the New Year

Living, Loving, and Leading in the New Year

We are already almost two weeks into 2019. Schools are back in session, and many of us are back in routine at work—paid or volunteer. It’s a good time of the year to reset and refocus.

No matter how long you have been attending Hershey Free, it is always good to recall and reflect on why we exist as a local church. How do we describe Hershey Free Church? Our mission statement defines a disciple of Jesus as someone who “lives with Jesus, loves like Jesus, and leads others to do the same.”

In practical terms this means our prayer for you, those who call Hershey Free Church home, is that you will spend intentional time with Jesus, find community and friendship in a smaller group setting, and that you will share that love with others as you serve within the church and in your communities. We have some easy next steps for you to take to join us on this mission of living, loving, and leading.

Together, Hershey Free has begun a journey through the book of Mark called Follow. We have devotional guides available for you at The Hub on Sundays as well as online at Take time to reflect on the passage of Scripture each week and interact with God as you learn who he is and who you are in him.

Our weekday Connect Groups for men and women are beginning in January and February. Or you might want to try a Sunday Connect Group; several meet during the 9 and 10:30 AM service times. Jump in and try one. You may need to move out of your comfort zone and take a risk. Each group is designed to help you find a community of people where you can share your own story, your struggles, your victories, and to encourage you as we walk together on our journey with Christ.

We also encourage you to serve within the church. We can help you find a role that will best suit your gifts and passions. Maybe you enjoy working with kids or you love to greet people and help them feel at home. Maybe you want to work behind the scenes cutting out craft projects or washing windows. This could be the time for you to try something new. But serving doesn’t only happen within the walls of the church. Sometimes your service may be involvement in your community. If you are serving locally we want to support you through our LIFT grants. We encourage you to make an impact in your community by getting to know your neighbors, your co-workers, the parents on your kids’ soccer teams.

We will continue to pray for you as you discover what it looks like in your own life to live with Jesus, love like Jesus, and lead others to do the same. May 2019 be a year of exploration and engagement!
