Downey Mission Trip
Downey Mission Trip
High School Team Update from Pastor Nick
This past week at Downey was nothing short of amazing. Our team left on Wednesday morning after being prayed over by Hershey Free staff, and we arrived at Downey unsure of what was to come, but fully aware that God was working. We completed set-up and then went door-to-door to invite our kids, but we hit a setback when our van broke down (just as a heavy rainstorm came through). But what I noticed was how our team didn’t complain, say they wanted to go home, or question what God was doing. Instead they rallied together and knew that they had to make it work. They weren’t going to let a tough moment dampen their resolve to minister at Downey.
Thanks to Pastor Craig and many other people back at HFC, we were able to get the mini bus for our trip; and from there, our journey continued to grow. We had over 20 kids come to VBS, and watching our students love and minister to them was absolutely beautiful. Our students ran crafts and games, taught Bible lessons, led worship, let kids jump all over them, and served in many more ways throughout the week. They also jumped in by serving with Mobile Mission on two separate nights by taking food and clothing to the homeless communities of Harrisburg. We also served at Loop Church on Sunday by setting up, serving lunch, and having two of our students share during the service.
Two moments stand out that encapsulate what this trip looked like: one child told our students, “I love God, and I love coming here because I get to learn about him,” and on Saturday afternoon one young man put his faith in Jesus with the help of two of our students. God is so good, and we are all coming back from Downey changed and excited to continue serving God wherever he calls us.
There are more stories to tell, so make sure to talk to our students. You can also find more photos and brief reports from the trip on our CORE Facebook page.
