Life Change from the Heart

Life Change from the Heart

It was a really hard season. My husband had lost his job through no fault of his own, we had an infant, a preschooler, and bankruptcy loomed around the corner. Family was 200 hundred miles away so we were on our own to get through each day. What we discovered during that season was that weren’t on our own. Yes, our faith sustained us in ways that we couldn’t have imagined, but our small group was the tangible evidence of God’s grace and love. Meals were brought to our home, money given anonymously, appeared in our mailbox and our boys were given clothes and shoes to help us get through those rough days. It was a very humbling but also life-giving experience.

Since college, when I was part of my first small group, I believed in its value, but those days in Virginia, many years ago, were the tangible evidence that community makes a difference! We were only in that small group for about a year before we moved to Pennsylvania but the love and support provided by the group left an indelible imprint on our lives.

We did make it through those days and God increased our faith in more ways than I can express. He also taught us that life is meant to be lived together in community to experience encouragement, support, challenge and love just as he intended from the beginning.
